7’scarlet review (with spoilers)

7’scarlet is a mystery otome game from Otomate (Idea Factory). Announced at Otomate Party 2015, it released in July 2016 with a Western release for 2018.

It’s about Hanamaki Ichiko (name customisable), a university student whose older brother disappeared without a trace a year ago. She blanks out from time to time, so her friend (since childhood), Kagutsuchi Hino can’t help but watch out for her. This is also because of a promise he made to Ichiko’s older brother.

Knowing that Ichiko is still hung up on the lack of information about her brother’s disappearance, he suggested visiting Okunezato, where Ichiko’s brother was last known to be. It’s a secluded place without many attractions but there’s an online club called the Forbidden Okunezato Club, dedicated to the various myths and mysteries of the town.

Spoilers after the cut. If you haven’t played this, you best stay away.

(unboxing) 7’scarlet original soundtrack

7scarlet original soundtrack and bonus badge

I grabbed this signed copy from the composer’s online store and comes with a badge, while stocks last.

The original soundtrack contains background music composed by Sugiura Yuuki for the Playstation Vita game, 7’scarlet. The game released in Japan on July 21, 2016 and slated for a Western release sometime 2018.

The theme songs were released separately by TEAM Entertainment. The game has a different version of the theme song featuring a different line of lyrics. Players who’ve played before will know what I’m talking about ;3

The tracks were well-suited with the scenes and definitely felt like it’s an additional element to the game instead of an extra. One spooky track, aptly named Dead Man Walking really helps you get into the mood 😂 I was actually playing another game when this played in the background so it really creeped me out xD

The leaflet inside has the sprites of all the six guys and the protagonist, Ichiko. The badge and store sticker are really cute. If you enjoy the game, the soundtrack will definitely bring you deeper into 7’scarlet’s world.

The original soundtrack is available on CD at the composer’s online store, CDJapan and Amazon Japan as well as other retailers. The theme song collection is available (most probably) worldwide on iTunes.
